Kowhai Park in Warkworth is a scenic reserve offering a short, easy loop walk through native bush, which features historic 1880s lime kilns and is a great spot to see native trees and birdlife.
Arborist 360 recently undertook a critical project at Kowhai Park in Warkworth, focused on the removal of several large Tōtara trees that were identified as hazardous. The primary challenge on this job was the poor health of the trees; many were too dead and unstable to be safely climbed by an arborist. To address this risk, we deployed a crane to access and dismantle the Tōtara, ensuring each section was safely lifted clear. Importantly, the main trunks of the Tōtara trees were salvaged and saved for the local council, who plan to reuse this valuable timber within the park. As the team was working in a highly visible and well-used public space, the health and safety of the public was our paramount concern. We meticulously implemented correct blocking off and demarcation of the public walkways, successfully executing the difficult removals while maintaining public safety throughout the entire process, with all brush being efficiently mulched on site.
